Recent Developments in Syria

Recent Developments in Syria were evaluated at the Extended Member Meeting of the Turkish Voluntary Organizations Foundation. 100 NGO representatives attended the meeting held at the Ensar Foundation Conference Hall. At the opening of the meeting, Hafiz Adem Başer from the Bayrampaşa Yeşil Camii İlim ve Hizmet Foundation gave a Qur'an recitation. TGTV President Hamza Akbulut, who made a consultation opening speech mentioned that the Syrian issue is a problem with very important consequences and said:

“We are surrounded by 13 countries. The armed forces of 13 countries have piled up in our south and in the Mediterranean. Why was there such a pile up? Here we will talk about the course of the Syrian issue in all its aspects. Public institutions are working on the education of Syrian children in our country. A guidance and information meeting on this issue will also be held with our voluntary organizations engaged in training activities.”

Retd. Gen. Adnan TANRIVERDİ gave detailed information about the latest developments in Syria and said that the Islamic world is under a global attack and drew attention to the fact that the world is under the domination of the USA. He mentioned that the USA spends 800 billion dollars a year on defense, while Russia spends 80 billion dollars a year, while Turkey spends 20 billion dollars on defense.
Tanrıverdi stated that Turkey should increase its independence in the defense industry and made the following proposals.

  1. Turkey's demand for a safe zone must continue
  2. Turkey should follow a flexible policy in the Syrian issue to the benefit of Bayırbucak and Iraqi Turkmens.
  3. It is necessary to have a Sunni region in the Middle East.
  4. Turkey should use its NATO membership as a deterrent and symbolic force. It should not rely entirely on NATO in its defense.
  5. The United States controls the Syrian airspace. The possibility of US-Russia coordination should be considered.
  6. By changing its defense strategy, Turkey should be able to detect and destroy the threat on the spot before it enters our border.
  7. The peoples of the Islamic world are ready to be more united than their states and state administrators.
  8. Turkmens and Sunnis are stuck in the Mosul issue. Turkey should be involved.
  9. In the Middle East, Shiites and Kurds have become a certain power with foreign support. The Turkmen and the Sunni bloc were weakened. Turkey should also be active in this regard.
  10. There is an asymmetric World War III in which Muslims are fighting each other in the Islamic World. We have to make peace with ourselves.
  11. Turkey should accept the PKK as an external threat and discharge it.

After ASSAM President of the Board Retd. Gen. Adnan TANRIVERDİ, journalist and writer Mustafa Özcan evaluated the latest developments in Syria. Özcan pointed out that Turkey's role in Syria is intended to be reduced by external powers. Özcan stated that the West has developed a pattern regarding the actors in Syria; accordingly, western states likened Assad and his supporters to Stalin and their opponents to Hitler in Syria, emphasizing that they would prefer structures that they symbolized with Stalin, who was dependent on the west today as they once were. Mentioning that the secret of the USA's support for Russia is that the Russians could not hold on wherever they go, Özcan said that what is happening in the Middle East today consists of a covert war against Islam. Özcan;
"Western powers are using Terror as a mask. Terrorism in the Middle East did not arise by accident. The Western countries, which won the cold war, applies strategies in its fight against Islam, in the absence of an Islamic unity. Western powers, who want to leave the Syrian issue unattended, are waiting for the establishment of a secular Syrian state here.”
Saying that Russia is a subcontractor in Syria, Özcan said that the theory of civil warfare is applied in Syria.
TGTV Extended Member Consultation Meeting concluded with the negotiations held by the representatives of the voluntary foundations.
