Situation Assessment in the Eastern Mediterranean

Turkey's strategy in the Eastern Mediterranean is the SURVIVAL policy of the ancient TURKISH state, as well as the current government, which has national and domestic values.  This policy must be maintained without any concessions, even if the government changes. Because this geopolitical problem is the necessity of our state's geopolitical existence in Anatolia.

The fact that our President Erdoğan is bringing the concept of "Blue Homeland" from the theory to practice with the policies of the Eastern MEDITERRANEAN and the AEGEAN, it is unlikely that the opponents who are blind with the hatred of Erdoğan and their ears are deaf to understand.

Western world, which cannot accept the Turkey’s steps taken to defend the rights of both itself and the fraternal country TRNC in the Eastern Mediterranean, is trying to apply pressure on Turkey through Greece, which it uses as a puppet state with a “crusader mentality” today, as in history.

FRANCE, USA, ENGLAND, GERMANY

Finally, France, frustrated by not being able to make a significant block at every step taken by Turkey, sent the “Charles de Gaulle” aircraft carrier to the region to support Greece. It is not possible for France to achieve anything by sending the Aircraft Carrier for provocation. There are the futile efforts. If they are trying to put a country like Turkey under pressure with a single aircraft carrier, France doing is a big mistake.

There are 40 aircraft on the aircraft carrier, they have their own defensive weapons. France's aim is to show its support to Greece. Some of the major NATO countries are implementing policies of deterrence against Turkey. France is trying to give the message, "If I want, I can provide Greece with all kinds of opportunities." I do not think this aircraft carrier will have an impact in the region. Turkey has already afforded anything at the moment.

France has been grappling with some major domestic economic and social problems for the last two years. Due to the actions of the Yellow Vests and the Covid-19 pandemic, it is experiencing great economic trouble. In addition, France's annual income of billions of dollars from colonies for centuries, especially through African countries, has decreased. France is trying to exist in Africa, bringing puppet leaders close to him to power through coups he has organized in some countries in Central and West Africa, such as ”Mali”.

On the other hand, the massacres by this state caused in some African countries are well-known that it tried to keep under yoke, such as Algeria and Rwanda. Unfortunately, as it is stated "Lack of human memory is forgetfulness", Humanity quickly forgets those who commit such massacre crimes among their daily pursuits:

  • The people, who wanted to get rid of the 132-year colonial shackles in Algeria since 1830, lost 1.5 million people in the struggle against France between 1954 and 1962 with the massacres committed by the French.
  • Again in Algeria in 1988, after the public protested against unemployment, corruption and similar reasons, the National Liberation Front, which has been ruling the country since independence, had to switch to a multi-party system in order to reduce the tension. In the first round of elections held in December 1991, after the conservative-leaning Islamic Salvation Front (FIS) gained an overwhelming advantage, the Algerian army, under French influence, intervened, canceled the election and banned the FIS. More than 100 thousand Algerians lost their lives in the conflicts over this events and lasted between 1992-1998.
  • The Rwandan genocide is an event in Rwanda in 1994 in which 800,000 Tutsi and moderate Hutu were killed by extremist Hutus (Interahamwe) in about a hundred days. France is the country most responsible for the Rwandan genocide, as it was the closest friend and supporter of the Hutu government that committed the genocide at the time.

Turkey's upright position in Libya and the Eastern Mediterranean has panicked France, the United States and some other NATO countries. In fact, there is a US behind France that encourages it. The United States, France and England, by serving as a basis for their illegal occupations in Syria and Iraq, handed over their captured locations to the PYD / PKK, which did not fire a single bullet, and took its side in thousands of sortie air operations, which it supposedly carried out to the terrorist organization DAESH but failed to achieve significant results. As is known, with the “Operation Euphrates Shield”, the Turkish state has made the most important and real defeat against DAESH in 2016.

In the European continent, there has been a leadership race between France and Germany in every period of history. Germany first acted as a mediator between Greece and Turkey to arbitrate its hegemonic stance within the EU, but it wants to maintain good relations with Turkey even though it has lost its neutrality. Taking advantage of the opportunity, France wants to sell various weapon systems to Greece, especially Rafael Fighter jets, in order to improve its economy. In the last 4-5 years, EU leader Germany, which has provided around 300 Billion Euros of financial aid to Greece, which is about to go bankrupt, is actually uncomfortable with this attitude of France. However, it does not bring this to the agenda for now.

There is also England in this issue. He is also waiting in ambush. The only purpose of the Western world, which represents corrupted Christianity, is to drive Turkey out of Anatolia. I mean, that famous "Eastern Question" is still in effect. Muslims should never forget this.

UN and NATO, SOUTHERN CYPRUS and RUSSIA FACTOR

Under UN legislation, in an inter-state conflict, the first to strike is always considered as criminal. The party that responds to this is doing self-defense. That's why Greece is trying to provoke Turkey. Turkey will be condemned to pay war compensation if Turkey rise to the bait.

What can NATO do in a possible conflict?

As outlined in the 2010 Strategic Concept, the NATO Crisis Desk can take military and non-military measures to address the full spectrum of crises before, during and after conflicts.

Article 1-The Parties undertake to resolve any international dispute in which they may be involved by peaceful means without endangering international peace and security and justice, as set out in the UN Law, and to refrain from the use or threat of force in their international relations in a manner contrary to the purposes of the UN.

Article 4- When either Party considers that the territorial integrity, political independence or security of one of the Parties is threatened, all Parties shall consult together.

"We have to understand the importance of Turkey's membership in NATO," said the current NATO Secretary General, Jens Stoltenberg, who was previously prime minister of Norway, noting that Turkey is a very important NATO ally.

In fact, if NATO cannot go beyond an alliance that takes a veiled role in the protection of the interests of major member states in the eastern Mediterranean crisis, Turkey is obliged to set a new direction for itself by putting NATO membership on the table. In other words, is NATO an obstacle for the Republic of Turkey or is it a sincere defense alliance? Both NATO must confront both within itself and in this crossroads with Turkey.

Turkey and Greece, which are NATO members, have to solve their problems peacefully, essentially under NATO legislation. But unfortunately, both the Greek side and the major NATO countries, whose names I have just mentioned, are fueling the fire. The last sign of this is that France launched the "Charles de Gaulle" aircraft carrier towards the Eastern Mediterranean and the USA decided to lift the arms embargo imposed on the Greek Cypriot Administration of Southern Cyprus for 33 years.

In fact, the main concern of the United States is that Russia is creating more and more influence in the Eastern Mediterranean. Namely: Russia has carried more ships to the Mediterranean in the last 1 year more than Russia have in the Black Sea. The United States, which expects Turkey to somehow block its passage through the Turkish Straits, showed it by lifting the arms embargo it has been imposing on the Greek Administration of Southern Cyprus for years in response to Turkey.

Looking at the background of the events, we see behind the scenes "de-facto" and indirectly Turkish-Russian solidarity in the Mediterranean. Although, in Libya and Syria, Turkey and Russia indirectly confront each other, they are essentially supporting each other in the Eastern Mediterranean. We understand it from 2 different NAVTEX decision between the dates of 8-22 September and 17-25 September which are declared in different locations. Because, NAVTEX announcements cover the title of "Russia shooting training" at 2 different locations between the dates.  The Russian Naval Command announced that it would conduct a shooting training at a point close to Oruç Reis with exact timing.  Cooperation between Russia and Turkey shooting training in the Mediterranean has created a big problem for France, which is trying to send a Navy to the region.

An inveterate alliance, led by the main opposition parties in an effort to object and block every good work done in Turkey, has been talking about Turkey's wrong foreign policy in the Eastern Mediterranean in recent days, almost supporting the West against Turkey.

Turkey is not alone, as some parties constantly says, in defending its rights in the Blue homeland and the Eastern Mediterranean. Russia and Azerbaijan are directly friendly to Turkey from their position in the Eastern Mediterranean, although in some regions they have opposite attitudes. Azerbaijan's President Ilham ALIYEV said: "Turkey is not only a friend but a brother country for us, and the Turks are our brother. Therefore, we will be with them in every matter.” He taught a lesson to the Greek official who visited them.

Cooperation between Russia and Turkey in shooting training in the Mediterranean has created a big problem for France and the United States, disingenuous members of NATO, who are trying to send a Navy to the region. They had a cold shower in September, when the August heat continued.

NATO cannot afford to lose a strong member, such as Turkey, who has always been active in the alliance's missions and operations. But Turkey is also determined to risk war, for the need to protect the "Blue Homeland", for its national interest in the Eastern Mediterranean.

In fact, the US lifting the arms embargo on Southern Cyprus is response to Turkey which let Russian ships passing through the Straits and landing in the Eastern Mediterranean. The main reason for pain in the USA is that it is in the Eastern Mediterranean rather than the Black Sea, where Russian ships are located. In addition, the US lifting the 33-year arms embargo on Southern Cyprus allows Turkey to stack more military personnel, weapons and ammunition on the island.

The Americans are taking steps to force the British to evacuate bases in Southern Cyprus. The biggest enemy of the British bases in Southern Cyprus is actually the Greeks. Because the ENOSIS ideology aims to end British rule in Cyprus. It must be seen that the British role is undermined by the US lifting the 33-year embargo.

"President Mr. Erdogan's wholehearted struggle is a fact that should be written in golden letters in Turkish history.

Turkish nation, realizing the value of the national power elements it possesses; It should insist on using the advantage of Anatolia's geopolitical position for a sharing on the axis of rights and justice, in proportion to the opportunities provided by its geographical location; It should seek ways to maintain its multidimensional proactive foreign policy with rational strategic moves.

In this regard, every Turkish citizen, political parties and NGOs, all official and semi-official institutions and organizations of the state, Strategic Research Centers, should contribute to the security units of our state with rational proposals with plans-projects and reports aimed at ensuring the survival of our state. This is a national mission and service.
